Inventory and billing software, built for your business
Stock tracking and invoicing that matches how you already work — not a subscription product you have to bend your process around, and not another monthly bill per user.
I've built this before
Agribooktech is an inventory management and invoicing system I built and continue to host. It handles stock tracking and invoice generation in one place, replacing spreadsheets and hand-written bills. It's live and in daily use — this isn't a capability I'm describing in theory.
What it can cover
- Stock levels, purchases and movement between locations
- Invoices and bills in the format your business actually uses, with tax handled
- Customer and supplier records tied to their transaction history
- Staff accounts with different permissions — not everyone sees everything
- Reports you'd otherwise assemble by hand in a spreadsheet
- Runs in a browser, so it works on the shop computer and on a phone
Custom versus subscription — honestly
Subscription software is often the right answer. If a ready-made product does what you need, it's cheaper to start and someone else maintains it. Building custom makes sense when the ready-made ones don't fit your process, when per-user pricing is getting expensive as you grow, or when you need your data on your own server. If your situation is the first one, I'll tell you.
Custom
- Larger cost once, at the start
- No per-user fee as the team grows
- Shaped around your existing process
- Data on your own server
- Changes possible whenever you need them
Subscription product
- Cheap to start
- Cost rises with every extra user
- Your process bends to fit the product
- Data held by the vendor
- Changes only if the vendor decides to build them
How the work goes
Understand the process
You walk me through how you work today — what gets tracked, who touches it, and where it goes wrong. Usually this is one conversation.
Fixed quote
You get a written scope and a fixed price before anything is built. If it's more than the problem is worth, you'll hear that too.
Build, deploy, hand over
Built, put on a server with HTTPS and backups, and handed over with your staff able to use it. Later changes are quoted separately.
Common questions
How much does custom inventory or billing software cost?
It's quoted per project, because the price depends entirely on what it has to do. Describe your current process — what you track, who uses it, where it breaks — and you'll get a fixed quote before any work begins.
Is custom software cheaper than a monthly subscription?
Custom costs more at the start and nothing per user afterwards. A subscription costs little at the start and more every year as you add staff.
For a small team over a year or two, a subscription usually wins. Over several years with a growing team, custom usually does. I'll give you my honest read for your situation.
Can it generate GST invoices?
Yes. Invoice formats, tax handling and numbering are built to match how your business actually issues bills, rather than forcing you into a fixed template.
Can it work with the way we already do things?
That's the whole point of building rather than buying. The software is shaped around your existing process, instead of asking your staff to change how they work to suit the software.
Who hosts it and what happens to our data?
It runs on a server set up and maintained for you, with HTTPS and backups. The data is yours. There's no per-user licence, and no company that can raise its prices or discontinue the product.
What if we need changes later?
Changes are quoted as separate pieces of work. Because the code was written for you, additions are usually straightforward rather than blocked by what a vendor permits.
